SPAULDING SQUARE

THE CHAPLIN HOUSE

A Historic Hollywood Revival in Spaulding Square

In the heart of Spaulding Square, one of Hollywood’s most architecturally significant residential neighborhoods in Los Angeles, this historic home, once owned by Charlie Chaplin, underwent a full restoration and remodel by Heart Construction. The goal of the project was not to reinvent the house, but to carefully renew it while preserving the architectural character that has defined the property since the 1920s.

Historic photographs of the original home helped guide many of the restoration decisions. The renovation focused on maintaining the scale, proportions, and craftsmanship that made the residence distinctive while updating the structure so it functions comfortably as a modern home.

Inside, the layout was thoughtfully refined to improve flow between the kitchen, living areas, and garden while preserving the warmth and intimacy of the original rooms. The kitchen became a central gathering space, anchored by custom cabinetry, a walnut island, and a professional Wolf range that blends classic design with contemporary performance.

As the renovation moves deeper into the home, the design shifts from shared living spaces to quieter private rooms. Bathrooms were redesigned with marble surfaces, walk-in glass showers, and classic fixtures that balance modern comfort with timeless design.

French doors open toward a private backyard courtyard where a pool and spa create a quiet outdoor retreat. The result is a home that feels both preserved and renewed a historic Hollywood residence thoughtfully restored for modern living.
